Carey was 5'10 inches tall when she became a top model. The popularity of her with American designer Calvin Klein or Ralph Lauren was very high. Her father was an eminent scientist and was named Scientist of 1979 by the Rocky Mountain Association of Geologists. Carey was educated across the globe as a consequence of her father's career. In the years of her college she started modeling part-time and attracted the attention from Ford model Agency representatives in New York. She moved to France in 1980 and lived briefly in Paris as well as Bordeaux prior to deciding to move back in New York to continue with her studies at the college level and her modeling career and was soon appearing on the covers of Vogue, Glamour, etc. While she was modeling, she was also a full-time student, completing a master's degree in literary studies at New York University. While she was studying acting at the Neighborhood Playhouse, New York, her enthusiasm for the field grew. Her first acting experience was in as a character alongside Robin Williams in the 1986 film "Club Paradise. White water rafting, skiing and rock climbing are among her preferred activities.
